Time: This is a full-time position with benefits (3-months probationary period at the beginning of contract)


Adhikaar for Human Rights and Social Justice

Adhikaar, meaning rights in Nepali, is a New York-based nonprofit organization working with Nepali-speaking communities to promote human rights and social justice for all. Established in 2005, Adhikaar is the only organization mobilizing the Nepali-speaking community in the New York area to raise our voices and take collective action against injustices on issues affecting us through organizing, community education, grassroots advocacy, leadership development, and individual assistance. We work in four program areas: workers’ rights, immigrant rights, language justice and access to healthcare. It is a fast-paced environment with many programs going on at once and the right candidate will thrive in such an environment.


Description

The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the overall and daily management of Adhikaar’s communications work, digital training and database management. The Communications Coordinator will report to the Campaigns & Communications Manager, and work closely with other relevant staff, Fellows and interns as needed. The Coordinator will work closely with Adhikaar’s growing staff in program development, implementation, and evaluation.


Responsibilities:

The responsibilities for the Communication Coordinator will include, but are not limited to, the following:


Lead/Coordinate

❏ Create, coordinate and execute content in English and Nepali for multiple platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Action Network and Mailchimp
❏ Help design and execute strategic social media campaigns including, but not limited to, public education, issue-based and  fundraising campaigns
❏ Help coordinate multimedia efforts (infographics, videos, etc.) for the website and other online platforms 
❏ Manage creation and maintenance of Adhikaar’s story bank: work with Organizers to collect member stories, curate stories and organize in written, audio, visual formats
❏ Coordinate and support the digital training needs of staff and members
❏ Maintain Adhikaar’s internal contact relationship manager (CRM) system including the growth and maintenance of lists across programs with program leads
❏ Manage Adhikaar’s internal photo/video library as lead documenter and historian to the organization’s activities
❏ Coordinate website update and maintenance needs with the website consultant
❏ Regularly conduct social media, website and list analytics reports


Support

❏ The tracking, progress and cultivation of individual donors for fundraising campaigns
❏ The development and implementation of an effective and dynamic online and offline communications strategy
❏ The data analytics on online components of campaigns and programs as needed
❏ In answering phone inquiries, assisting with walk-ins, conducting workshops, and resource collection 


Other responsibilities:

❏ Support Adhikaar’s program staff with ongoing campaigns
❏ Provide language assistance
❏ Provide support for Adhikaar’s special events 
❏ Support Adhikaar’s fundraising efforts
❏ Must be available for travel and work engagement after-hours on an as-needed basis


QUALIFICATIONS

Required
❏ Demonstrates commitment to Adhikaar’s mission and vision
❏ At least 2-3 years of experience in communications or relevant grassroots organization
❏ Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and a wide variety of professional backgrounds and experiences
❏ Excellent written and oral communication skills; experience in campaign and fundraising writing a plus
❏ Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, as well as social media tools
❏ Experience in communications, storytelling and media
❏ Ability to work in a team as well as lead independent projects
❏ Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced work setting 
❏ Attention to detail a must
❏ Bi-lingual: Nepali and English; additional skills in Tibetan a plus
❏ Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends

Preferred
❏ An understanding of the political landscape and political analysis of workers rights, immigrant rights, and gender justice issues
