More about our honoree, Hasan Shafiqullah

For the past nineteen years, Hasan has represented clients in a range of matters, including immigration, housing, family, consumer, name change, divorce and probate, and has given numerous trainings to clients and staff at nonprofit organizations and hospitals, on issues such as immigrant rights, housing rights, HIV confidentiality, attorney-client confidentiality and permanency planning. Hasan previously worked as a staff attorney in the same unit, and before that in the HIV Unit at Legal Aid’s Harlem Community Law Office, and in the HIV Unit at Queens Legal Services, and earlier represented tenants in San Francisco.

Last year, after our successful campaign for Temporary Protected Status following the 2015 earthquakes in Nepal, Hasan led a team of his colleagues and pro-bono lawyers to provide valuable legal assistance to Nepali nationals. We appreciate not just his legal expertise, but also his compassion and solidarity. We are thrilled to honor his work this month at our annual Spring for Justice reception! Buy your tickets today or make a donation to honor Hasan and support Adhikaar’s work.

Hasan Shafiqullah, supervising attorney at the Legal Aid Society’s Immigration Law Unit, has worked tirelessly for the rights of immigrants, including hundreds of Adhikaar members.
Hasan’s award will be presented by Hollis Pfitsch, Deputy Commissioner of the New York City Commission on Human Rights, Law Enforcement Bureau. Formerly a Staff Attorney with The Legal Aid Society, Hollis has been a long time supporter of Adhikaar.
