Thank you for joining us for #Spring4Justice 2017!

Thank you for joining us for last week’s Spring for Justice reception! It was a powerful evening bringing together so many in the Adhikaar family. Thanks to our dedicated Host Committee, Sponsors, Board, staff and volunteers for making the event a huge success, helping us raise resources and voices, strengthening our organizing work!

The evening was filled with stories of the inspiring strength of our members and organizers, whose quotes are featured below. We were grateful to share part of our vision for the future, as we plan to grow and strengthen our immigration and civic engagement programs. This means thinking new for Adhikaar, and rebuilding our youth program so that we are organizing the new generation of organizers, leaders and movement makers. We look forward to bringing together the children of immigrant workers to speak about what they need from their schools, from their communities and from us.

We were thrilled to honor the New York Immigration Coalition, and took the opportunity to express our gratitude to Urvashi Kaul, who has served our community for the past 6 years and will be retiring from our Board of Directors.

For those who were unable to make the event, you were greatly missed, but we appreciate your continued support! Check out the photos from the event on our Facebook page. More media, details and video from the event are below.

We raised just over 69K – you can help us reach our 70K goal by the end of June. Tax deductible donations can be made here. Thanks to your support, we are able to continue to work for our community. We look forward to continue building with you in the future.

In solidarity,
Pabitra Benjamin

Executive Director

“After struggling for months, I finally got some justice by getting my temporary disability benefit, and I will continue to fight for my wage, and against the inhuman treatment by my employers. I am here today to share my story not just for me, but in hopes that more vulnerable workers will come out of the shadows to fight for their justice and hold employers accountable.” — Mingmar Sherpini, Member Leader & Domestic Worker
I have lived in New York Since 2010, worked as a nail technician for 7 years and I am an Organizer at Adhikaar. When I started my job in this country, I didn’t feel like I was a human being. Today I am a representative of thousands of nail technicians and I work for 800 Nepali and Tibetan Nail technicians at Adhikaar.” — Pabitra Dash, Organizer
In June of 2015, the Department of Homeland Security granted Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, for Nepali citizens. I was one of the recipients. Just as the work of getting TPS does not happen on it’s own, people also don’t receive TPS on their own. It takes support services for people to navigate the system.” — Maya Gurung, Program Assistant
