Title: Communications Fellow
Time & Duration: This is a temporary, part-time hourly contract position (estimated 5-8 hours a week in total)

Position Summary: The Communications Fellow will work under the supervision of the Campaigns & Communications Manager to support the organization’s communications work, focusing on all of Adhikaar’s programs. The fellow will also work alongside community organizers on documentation (visual and written) of worker stories, and covering Adhikaar’s events and programs on social media. They will also support pitching member stories to local, regional and national media.

Duties & Responsibilities

    • Work as part of a team to develop and implement an effective and dynamic online and offline communications strategy;
    • Create and/or coordinate multiple types of content in English and Nepali (e.g., multimedia content) for multiple platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Action Network and Mailchimp;
    • Help design and execute strategic social media campaigns, including coordinating the creation and launch of social media advertisements;
    • Help coordinate multimedia efforts (infographics, videos, etc.) for blog and other online publications;
    • Support collecting member stories and pitching them to media outlets; and
    • Perform other communications and administrative duties as necessary.

Skills & Qualifications

    • An understanding of challenges faced by low-income and new immigrant communities;
    • Experience in communications, storytelling and media;
    • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced work setting;
    • Investment in the mission and values of Adhikaar, and an ability to represent these views in campaign materials;
    • Attention to detail a must;
    • Excellent written and communication skills;
    • Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends; and
    • Bilingual speaking ability in English AND Nepali is required. Ability to read, write in Nepali is a plus.

This is an hourly, temporary, contract position, and the fellow will be paid $15/hour. The work outlined above will total to an estimated 5-8 hours a week. New York City candidates preferred. Remote candidates considered. Applications will be accepted until April 30.
